One of the most frustrating things with a build is when one aftermarket part needs to work with another aftermarket part, but something doesn’t fit, and requires modifications. But when they do work together, like Dakota Digital and Vintage Air products, it’s a blessing.
What could have been an issue was just a minor shift in the plans, and that usually means spending more money. But that’s what hot rodding is all about: discoveries and making changes. We merely punctured the oil filter, it could’ve been worse.
We reached a milestone: we finally dropped the engine into place for a test fit and to assist with planning for the electrical and other components. It was a long wait, but it sure felt good to see how it’s all coming together. The Hellvedere II is officially here.
One of the more appealing aspects of an older car is the simplicity of the electrical system: no fancy sensors and switches that control engine function. But swapping a modern engine into a classic changes that perspective as we added the Crate Harness to the Redeye.

We’ve been asked a few times when we’re going to get our Project Windstorm back on the road. We finally made a decision to solicit some help from a friend to get the work done that we needed, and to get the swap rolling. But wait, there’s more!
After a run in with a counterfeiter on eBay, we decided not to take any chances with our ignition system in Project Windstorm. We opted for new set of MSD Blaster Coils for our Redeye beautification project, and ended up with coils that perform, above all else.
For part two, we address the mounting of the two information display screens that are provided with the Dakota Digital HDX Series instruments. Finding a mounting location was simple once we saw that Dakota Digital had several options.
The Hellcat Redeye engine is home, and it’s time for some clean up to make it look like new. The before and after is a good showing of what some elbow grease and determination will do for you.
