One of the more appealing aspects of an older car is the simplicity of the electrical system: no fancy sensors and switches that control engine function. But swapping a modern engine into a classic changes that perspective as we added the Crate Harness to the Redeye.
We swore that at some point Project Windstorm was going to have the ultimate A/C system for those hot summer nights. But planning for it in a modified vehicle like Project Windstorm is made much simpler with the Vintage Air Gen 5 Magnum Mock-Up Kit.
We’ve been asked a few times when we’re going to get our Project Windstorm back on the road. We finally made a decision to solicit some help from a friend to get the work done that we needed, and to get the swap rolling. But wait, there’s more!
As with most any modern engine swap for a classic car, there’s going to be some modern technology that comes along with it. Fortunately, we weren’t left to searching the wrecking yards for a few of the parts, they were available directly from Mopar.
Some swap are easy, and some are a bit more tedious, but swapping a Hellcat into a ’65 Plymouth is not impossible. It just means paying attention to details, and fortunately, we have companies like Holley that provide the parts we need.
After a run in with a counterfeiter on eBay, we decided not to take any chances with our ignition system in Project Windstorm. We opted for new set of MSD Blaster Coils for our Redeye beautification project, and ended up with coils that perform, above all else.
One area of a Hellcat Swap to a classic Mopar that needs attention is the bulky OE Intercooler Manifold. It’s big, and it’s ugly, and it needs to go. There are a couple of choices to replace it, and we called on our friends at Holley to help us with a solution.
For part two, we address the mounting of the two information display screens that are provided with the Dakota Digital HDX Series instruments. Finding a mounting location was simple once we saw that Dakota Digital had several options.
The Hellcat Redeye engine is home, and it’s time for some clean up to make it look like new. The before and after is a good showing of what some elbow grease and determination will do for you.
